Sustainable accommodation facilities and park in the Maquis near Sassari, Italy, 2006
The design is based on the environmental recovery of an area on top of the rocky coast of the western Sardinian Sea, named Monte Rugginosu. A hotel complex of three receptive units of 150 rooms each is arranged over an area of 54 hectares, a former agricultural estate now dismissed. The low rise buildings, clad with stone and glass, follow the conformation of the terrain and have roof gardens merged with the surrounding ground, planted endemic vegetations of the coastal belt; the design is based on eco-sustainability criteria and energy conservation.
